A Promise is a promise

ImageThe promise was made; it was unsolicited yet you promised. Because of the hope, emotion and relief the promise made it became an expectation. The expectation became the bound to commitment and the bound became a stronger commitment, a debt. A debt owed to the rural woman, a debt to the corporate woman, a debt to the womb that brings forth life, a debt to the vulnerable against oppression. It became a debt because the promise was to end violence against women, and society had gotten weary of the vice.

The promise would see an end to the battered woman in her home. It would see the scars ebb from the once clear and smooth skin. It would see a return of the smile that had been buried deep under the constant curled lip. It would see a spark reignited deep in those deep set eyes that had become accustomed…
